Geithner Threatens Capitalism Again

By Caomhin

This guy needs to go, as quickly as possible.  Though in some respects, at least he’s being honest about the Administration’s state planning framework for their economic theories.  Geithner said today that, “capitalism will be different,” and further evidenced his anti-free market beliefs by stating that,

“This will clean out a lot of the excesses and bad practices. And those that don’t get cleaned out just by experience and knowledge now, better regulation and oversight, better rules of the game, enforced more cleanly will fix it.”

Regulation is a fine line, too much or too little can be devastating and I think the government’s involvement in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac cases show how government intervention led to the gigantic bubble and subsequent burst from which we are still reeling.  In fact, if we had gotten the investigation that the GOP called for which was blocked by people like Barney Frank the problems that we are currently facing may not have been so severe.  I have no doubt that the new Administration will over regulate the market place as well, another negative consequence for our nation’s long term prosperity.  What is important about the aforementioned segment from the Politico piece, i my opinion,  is “better rules of game.”  The rules of the game, of course, are determined in the free market.

People are free to choose in which contracts and associations they will enter.  This is one of the tenets of the free market.   The government’s purpose is more as a moderator not an active participant, the more the government involves itself, the more rights are stripped away from the individual and power is transferred from the citizens to a centralized government.  The rules of the game are always changing, of course, as determined by the market behaviors of the individual.   That is why stock prices constantly change, that is why clothing style change, it is why everything changes.  The tastes, the needs, the opinions of the participants in the market decides what is fair.  This is also how prices are set.  It is an equilibrium that is constantly being sought or set based on the level of production, which in turn is based on demand.

I do not want to go to far into economic theory here, as I could continue for volumes, however, it is imperative that one recognizes that prices and rules are never static.  They are constantly changing in response to the participants in the market.  When Geithner states an intention to change the “rules of the game,” he is talking, of course, about changing the way individuals behave through the government entering into the market place, disrupting equilibrium, and the ability of individuals to engage into private contacts of their choosing.  He is not hiding his desire nor his intention of having the government go to war with the free market, which in turn, is an assault on the rights of individuals.  In short, he is all but admitting that he will start our nation on a march toward a more socialist state.

You Don’t Say

By Caomhin

The headline says it all, “Former Gitmo Prisoner Gets Taliban Promotion.”  You mean the people who were held at Gitmo were actually terrorists who wanted to destroy the United States and murder our fellow citizens who have volunteered to serve in our military?  Who could have seen that coming?

Where’s Code Pink at these days? Shouldn’t the be out screeching about this sort of thing in the streets of Afghanistan, reminding the terrorists that they are not actually terrorists and shouldn’t be murdering and torturing innocent Americans and Afghans?  Where’s the media outrage and coverage of this story?

The left wing of this nation howls wildly when Rush Limbaugh makes a stand and states that he does not want Socialist or statist to take root in the country, yet than can not come to terms to admit that President Bush did not fail when he told the world what type of people were being held at Gitmo, terrorist scum.  They of course, can not admit this, or else they’d be admitting that President Bush had taken the correct course of action in sending them to Gitmo in the first place.

Here’s a few little reminders for Obama.  First, don’t close down Gitmo, it appears that you may actually be coming around to realizing why it’s actually there in the first place.  Second, Mr. Hope and Change, start expressing some confidence in our troops in Afghanistan and in the Afghan people themselves.  Show true faith, like President Bush had in our troops and in the Iraqis.  Knowing people believe in you is a great motivator.  Third, don’t let Biden talk, at all, about anything, especially about Afghanistan (reference my last sentence…and the English language in general).  Finally, let me remind you, there is no “moderate” elements in the Taliban with which you can negotiate.

Ros-Lehtinen Sticks Up for America, Blasts UN

By Caomhin

It’ll be interesting to see how much coverage this story gets, but Ileana Ros-Lehtinen deserves a great deal of praise for standing up for the American Taxpayer and taking a UN official for task to referring to our nation as “the biggest deadbeat.” That is an utterly moronic statement.  As it stand we do far too much for the UN as it is and all we ever get in return are repeated slaps to the face.

I’m very happy that Rep. Ros-Lehtinen rose to the occasion to put this moron in their place.  In fact, you should really read the whole thing if you haven’t already done so.  She pulls no punches on them and it’s about time one of our elected officials did it, and in a clear, “no doubt about it” manner.  I’d hold out hope that there would be some type of reprisal from our government as a whole for such an outright slander against our citizens and our nation, but I think the odds of that occurring are slim to none.  In fact, I’m expecting Obama, Nancy, Hillary, Harry, and rest of the far left crew to start forming some sort of bailout bill for the UN sometime soon.  I’m also pretty confident our new Congress and Administration will further erode the rights of the individuals that make up our great nation and sacrifice more of our sovereignty by enacting the Law of the Sea Treaty.  It’s at least somewhat comforting to know that we have at least one elected willing to go on record and call out the UN in no uncertain terms.

Barack ain’t Jesus?

By Riss

Rev. Jeremiah Wright said that “Barack ain’t Jesus and that he won’t improve your child’s reading score.”  And said, “he is like any other President and he’s got to do what politicians do.”  It’s like a slam to Obama and a wake up call all at the same time.  Who would have thought this would have come from the KKK USA guy?  I guess in the grand scheme of things Rev. Wright did try to warn everyone before the election.  Keep on preachin’ it brother! (sarcasm, just incase you were wondering)

I don’t really have anything else to say, this just takes the cake.

Toomey to Challenge Specter

By Caomhin

You’ll remember how amped I was when it seemed eminent that Pat Toomey would be running for Governor of Pennsylvania.  I had an opportunity a couple of weeks ago to meet Rep. Toomey and talk with him a few minutes.  I thanked him for all of his service that he gave to me as a constituent of his district and also shared a few choice words about Sen.. Specter with regards to his voting for Porkfest 2009.  I don’t recall the exact words, but it was something along the lines of, “if I have to pull out one more the daggers he’s put in my back, I’m going to bleed out.”  Rep. Toomey probably doesn’t recall me or my comment, who knows. I can guarantee, however, that I’m not the only one who’s said something like this to him.  In fact, he’s probably heard something similar many, many times.

I had the opportunity to hear the President of The Club for Growth give a rousing speech on spending and fiscal responsibility and how desperate Pennsylvania is for real leadership.  He gave an articulate speech about limited government, free markets, and empowering the individual.  The bulk of the speech was directed at how the government here in Pennsylvania has been run under Fast Eddy Rendell, but he made key points about the situation on the federal level as well.  It was an incredible speech and I was convinced more than ever that he would be our next governor.  I don’t mind being wrong, in retrospect.

I’m quite excited to hear the news that Pat Toomey has decided to run a primary challenge to Arlen Specter once more.  More so, I have no doubt he is going to win the primary, of that, I am sure.  I will do everything in my power to make this happen.  I will help him win the Senate seat in any way possible.   He is EXACTLY the kind of person whose leadership we desperately need.

There are just a few points I want to make here before I wrap this post up.  First, I distinctly recall over the last few days Toomey warning Specter about the Check Card Vote, to not go along with this disastrous liberal anti-secret ballot measure.  Today, there was news out that Obama has told the unions that Check Card will pass sometime this year.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what this most likely means.  Specter is going to vote for this bill as well, further weakening the rights of individuals and harming the economy in the process.  I think Toomey knows this as well and he can’t sit idly by and let our economy face disaster after disaster coming out of Congress.  He’s the right man for the job and exactly what we need.  I know it, he knows it, and soon the majority of voters in the Commonwealth will show this to be true at the ballot box (in a secret ballot, by the way).

The last point I’ll make on the implications of this is that with Toomey running for the Senate seat, I think our Governor’s race is going to come down to Tom Corbett and Pat Meehan (a Specter ally) in the primary, unless Joe Scarnati gets involved as well.  In the end though, we could pull off something great in 2010 with Toomey winning in the Senate and Corbett going to Harrisburg as our new governor.  It’s going to be a great election cycle for the Commonwealth.

Prayers for Barbara Bush

By Caomhin

Good news, as Barbara Bush is resting comfortably and in good spirits after undergoing successful heart surgery.  Mrs. Bush has always been one of the classiest and most honorable people who have been visible in the political world. I am very happy to hear that her surgery went well and that both she and 41 are in good spirits.  We should keep her and the family in our prayers as she continues to recover from the surgery.

Democrats and the DJIA by the Numbers

By Caomhin

I went through and pulled the numbers in an effort to visually demonstrate the effects that the Democrats have had on the economy.  I remember thinking to myself, after a horrendous 2006 election season, “how bad can they possibly screw things up,” under the false assumption that the Republicans could regain Congressional majority by adhering to core small government, free market beliefs.  Here’s the graph I have compiled, which I will supplement afterwards with some data points:

DJIA

So what do the bullet points represent?  Dates, Events, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJIA).  Here are the data points:

Date Event .DJIA
4 January 2007 The Day After Democrats are sworn in as the majority in the Senate and the House. 12480.69
3 November 2008 The Day before the election. 9319.83
5 November 2008 The Day after the election. 9139.27
5 January 2009 A larger Democrat majority is sworn into office in the Senate and House. 8952.89
21 January 2009 The Day After Obama is sworn in. 8228.1
3 March 2009 End of Business Yesterday 6726.02

Note the decline since the Democrats first took control of Congress.  Take special note, too, that the first round of ill conceived bailouts did not exponentially accelerate the decline (this round occurred near the end of 2008), so despite the implementation of the first egregious assault on the free market, the markets still didn’t collapse upon themselves.  But You’ll notice that the rapid decline starting happening on January 5th, the day after the Democrats increased their majority stake in Congress.  It went into hyper drive on the 21st of January, the day after Obama was inaugurated.

The decline in the Dow Jones Industrial Average from January 4th 2007 until January 5th 2009 was 3887.8 points, a decrease of 31.15% over the course of two years.  The decrease between January 5th 2009 and March 3rd 2009 was 2226.87, a decrease of 27.06%…in less than three months.

The news of subsequent bailouts and the environment has been known for sometime, the market always has a way of factoring in variable rather quickly from the time of announcements.  You’ll recall that interest rate changes are usually figured in the day before they are officially announced.  So obviously, something else here is at play, some variable that was previously unaccountable and unpredicted by the market that is now in process of being factored into the equation.

I believe that by highlighting the statistical data from these events and points in time, it’s quite obvious (and easy) to illustrate that since the consolidation of power by the Democrats on January 20th 2009, the markets are declining at a much faster rate than they previously had been.  The “Stimulus Bill”, the “Budget,” and other policies announced and being pursued by Obama and liberals in Congress were not accurately predicted.  Despite the warnings of many economists and advocates of the free market, experts were POSITIVE that Obama was not some radical tax and spend liberal, but a centrist, that he would not pursue destructive policies that would destroy jobs, drive money out of the private sector, and would not make Wall Street out to be some sort of monster.  They were wrong.  They miscalculated badly and now the markets are adjusting to this realization.

I’d also like to touch on one other point.  As Obama is going to be in permanent campaign mode for the next four years (good God, it’s only been 6 weeks), his allies in the media are going try to cover him as best they can.   It will be interesting to see from where they will start their data points when to go to hype him up even more, but rest assured, we will not let them get away with it.  We’re going to hold them accountable.
